TeleNav GPS Navigator v5.5 on the Verizon BlackBerry Tour
It’s day four of Tour de BlackBerry Week here on the TeleNav blog and once again, we’re giving away a one-year subscription to TeleNav GPS Navigator (or one of the navigation applications from our carrier partners) in support of the launch of TeleNav GPS Navigator v5.5 for the new Verizon BlackBerry Tour. I’ve been using the Tour for the last few days (video here) and have to say that RIM has definitely produced another great BlackBerry device.
For those of you who might not be familiar with TeleNav GPS Navigator v5.5, the application provides spoken turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic information with one-button rerouting, more than 10 million points of interest and online pre-planning capabilities. For more information on purchasing TeleNav GPS Navigator and receiving a 30-day trial, visit our online store.
If you haven’t had the chance to read the blog this week, we’ve been giving away a prize each day to the first person to correctly answer a question about the Tour de France.
Here’s today’s trivia question. The first person to comment on this blog with the correct answer will win the prize.
If Lance Armstrong pulls out the win in the 2009 Tour de France, how many total Tour de France titles will he have won in his career?
Good luck and visit the blog tomorrow for the final day of Tour de BlackBerry Week.
It’s already been an incredible summer of wildly popular smartphone launches and it looks like the parade isn’t going to end anytime soon. Next up in line are Verizon and RIM with the launch of the BlackBerry Tour on Verizon Wireless. This full-featured smartphone hits stores this Sunday, July 12, and if these early reviews are any indication (CNET, Engadget Mobile, Boy Genius), this is going to be a hot device. Of course, as with almost all of today’s top smartphones, TeleNav is right there to bring our industry leading turn-by-turn navigation application to the BlackBerry Tour on Verizon.
The latest version of TeleNav GPS Navigator (v5.5) will be available immediately from our Web site, complete with a 30-day free trial, for all of you who head out and purchase the BlackBerry Tour this Sunday. If you’re looking to add a turn-by-turn navigation application to your Tour, here’s a few of the features you’ll get with TeleNav GPS Navigator for $9.99/month:
Turn-by-turn, voice guidance - TeleNav GPS Navigator incorporates turn-by-turn, voice-guided directions. Now you can go beyond a basic map view of your location and receive guidance along your entire route, factoring in elements such as traffic and your personal route preferences. TeleNav GPS Navigator will turn your BlackBerry Tour into a lean, mean GPS machine
An always up-to-date experience - going beyond what you get with most personal navigation devices, TeleNav GPS Navigator uses the BlackBerry Tour’s connectivity to ensure the maps and point of interest databases you’re depending on are up-to-date, with updates provided every three months
Real-time traffic information - with TeleNav GPS Navigator on your BlackBerry Tour, you’ll receive real-time traffic information and the ability to re-route around traffic at the push of a button. You can also receive traffic alerts directly on your phone to help you decide if you’re ready to leave the office to brave the traffic or if you want to wait a few minutes for a less congested drive home
Gas Price Information - TeleNav GPS Navigator instantly returns results for gas prices in your area, even breaking it down by grade. In these summer months where gas prices climb higher and higher, finding the best gas price can be a great way to save a few bucks.
Millions of Points of Interest - With TeleNav GPS Navigator on your BlackBerry Tour, you’ll have access to more than 10 million points of interest, ranging from restaurants to ATMs to Wi-Fi hotspots. No matter where you’re traveling, you will have instant access to any business you may need to locate and easily navigate to it
Voice entry - As you’ll see in the video accompanying this post, TeleNav GPS Navigator incorporates voice entry, so not only can you type in an address or business, but with a single touch of the screen, you can speak it and the application will recognize the location and get you started on your way
Planning ahead - With TeleNav GPS Navigator, you can preplan online and send addresses and business listings from your computer to your phone. The next time you start the application, the addresses will be available and ready for you to hit the open road
We got our hands on Verizon’s BlackBerry Tour and decided instead of just talking about what TeleNav GPS Navigator can do on the phone, we’d show you. So, I hopped in the car for a trip to a local Starbucks here in Sunnyvale. To show all of the ways you can find a location, I headed to the Starbucks using the search function with text entry and headed back to the office using voice entry. I won’t make any claims of being a professional actor, but we hope the video gives you a good idea of what TeleNav GPS Navigator can do on the BlackBerry Tour.
And we’re not stopping at video. Because there is so much excitement around this Sunday’s launch of the BlackBerry Tour on Verizon, we’ve decided to declare next week Tour de BlackBerry Week here at TeleNav. We’ll be running a daily contest for readers to win a one-year subscription of TeleNav GPS Navigator (or one of the carrier-branded navigation applications from our partners) through a Tour de France trivia contest. So stay tuned . . .
As part of the weekend’s fundraiser, DJ Irie hosted a celebrity golf tournament. TeleNav, along with partners Sprint and Research In Motion (RIM), proudly played a part in this event, providing golfers and celebrities with BlackBerrys to use throughout the day.
We thank Sprint and RIM for the opportunity, congratulate DJ Irie on his successful event, and tip our hat to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Miami for all of the great work they continue to do for thousands of children each year.
TeleNav GPS Navigator on a RIM/T-Mobile UK Double-Decker Bus
No, this isn’t an announcement of a new TeleNav band - although I am sure we have a few Guitar Hero greats in our group.
This Spring, TeleNav is on tour with RIM and T-Mobile UK. We’re traveling around England, Scotland and Wales (on this great double-decker bus) to talk with people about BlackBerrys and TeleNav GPS Navigator. The bus includes device demonstrations as well as videos so customers can get a real sense of how the technology works.
If you’re in the UK and interested in checking out the T-Mobile UK/RIM bus, check out the schedule here. We’d love to show you what our app can do.
TeleNav GPS Navigator on the AT&T BlackBerry Curve
According to AvianResearch, here is the list of Top 10 Most Popular Mobile Handsets in the U.S. for Sept:
RIM BlackBerry Curve - 26.1%
Apple iPhone - 9.2%
LG Dare - 7.9%
RIM BlackBerry Pearl - 6.6%
LG Voyager - 6.5%
Samsung Instinct - 5.8%
LG Rumor - 5%
LG Shine - 3.5%
Palm Centro - 2.9%
Nokia 5310 - 2.5%
Looks like the BlackBerry Curve beat out the iPhone by a landslide which may surprise many iPhone customers. LG also cleaned up nicely with four phones on the list.
What do you think? Any phone not on the list that you think should be?
It looks like it’s going to be an interesting conference - we’re looking forward to all of the announcements and networking with some of the great industry minds.
If you’re at the event, be sure to stop by the Location-based Services (LBS) and Mobile Web panel session which is tomorrow at 3:30pm in Room 2006. Our CEO, HP Jin, will be discussing how LBS is helping to boost the usability of the Mobile Web. Other panelists include representatives from RIM, ESPN and Cisco.
We’ll also be showing off our services in TeleAtlas’ booth on the exhibit floor. Stop by and say hi - it’s booth #717.
