Demo: Sprint Navigation on the HTC EVO 4G
May 24th
Posted by Kenji Onozawa in Everything Else
On June 4th, the HTC EVO 4G is coming and one thing is clear – you should believe the hype.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve at the very least have heard of the HTC EVO 4G. Why all the buzz about this little guy? Well, first off because there’s nothing little about it – it’s big. 4.3 inches big, which makes it noticeably larger than the iPhone.
In addition to it’s screen, other reasons the EVO is getting a lot of hype is because it’s the world’s first 3G/4G device, it offers two cameras (an 8MP autofocus camera w/ dual LED flash and a 1.3 MP front facing camera), the ability to capture and share 720p video, and with it you have the ability to do live video chat. Slick? We definitely think so.
Besides being a multimedia powerhouse, with the EVO (bundled in with Sprint’s Simply Everything Plans), you have access to Sprint Navigation (which is powered by us). Wonder what it looks like on the EVO’s massive 4.3 inch display? Recently, we hit the roads of Sunnyvale and shot a video to show you just that. Check it out!
AT&T Navigator v1.5i Now Available for iPhone
Feb 6th
Posted by Todd Witkemper in TeleNav News
Even though the holiday season has passed, it looks like the gifts keep on flowing for AT&T Navigator subscribers using an iPhone. AT&T Navigator v1.5i has just launched and provides a number of new features developed to make the navigation experience easier and more enjoyable for users. We’ve been listening to your feedback and have added new features and improvements based what users have said about the application. The app now includes:
- Speed Limit Display & Alerts: Navigation screen includes speed limit information and provides visual and audio alerts if the limit is exceeded
- Last Trip Origin: Once a trip is completed, users can easily return to the origin of their last trip by accessing the “Recent Places” menu
- Nighttime Maps: The brightness levels of map screens are adjusted for nighttime driving for easier viewing
- Improved Route Avoidance Options: Drivers may now choose to avoid routes that make use of high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes or choose to avoid routes that include toll roads
- Improved Pedestrian Mode: Users will be able to clearly identify when they are navigating in pedestrian mode with the introduction of a new pedestrian icon on the map screen
Oh, and I saved the best for last. Version 1.5i has a very unique feature called Shake-to-Go that allows users to simply shake their iPhone while using AT&T Navigator and they will automatically be routed to a location they have previously set as their home address. Any time you want to go home from your current location, it’s as easy as a few shakes of your iPhone.
We put together a brief video demo to show you the new features in action. Take a few minutes to check it out and then pick up your iPhone and download the update for yourself. If you’re not already using AT&T Navigator on your iPhone, it’s easy to download from the App store. It can be found in the free navigation applications section. Once downloaded, the application costs just $9.99/mos. (or you can purchase for $69.99/year) and is billed right to your monthly AT&T bill.
Now go out and enjoy AT&T Navigator v1.5i for your iPhone. We’d love to see you submit some video responses on our YouTube page showing us just how you like to Shake-to-Go with your iPhone. As an ode to the once popular rapper Mystikal, Shake your phone, show us what you’re working with!

Sneak Peek – TeleNav GPS Navigator on BlackBerry Bold 9700
Nov 13th
Posted by Todd Witkemper in TeleNav News
So here’s a nice treat for all of you on a Friday evening. We got our hands on an early version of T-Mobile’s upcoming BlackBerry Bold 9700 and took some time to shoot a brief, sneak-peek video of TeleNav GPS Navigator running on the phone. While there are a number of videos of the phone posted out there on that “series of connected tubes” the rest of us like to call the Internet, I think we’re the first blog to deliver this exclusive demo of our navigation app running on the phone. That’s right, consider it our little gift to you before you head out and pick up the phone next Monday, Nov. 16. If you’re thinking about picking up the phone, I can personally say that it’s a very impressive device. The folks over at RIM did away with the trackball and introduced a new touchpad, which worked very well for me while I was testing the device. The phone’s also very sleek in terms of design, so you can definitely count on it making your friends jealous when you pull it.
As you can see in the video, not only do I assume that all of you out there watching are “party people,” but TeleNav GPS Navigator does a great job of getting me and my camera man Ryan to the local Bank of America. Some of the features I bring up in the video include the ability to share addresses with your contacts, day/night mode, smart spell recognition and the quality of the text-to-speech function.
Enjoy the video and let us know what you think of TeleNav GPS Navigator on the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 or any of the other phones we support. We always appreciate your feedback. Have a great weekend.
Video Demo: Sprint Navigation (powered by TeleNav) on the Samsung Moment
Nov 3rd
Posted by Todd Witkemper in TeleNav News
Well, the new phones continue to come down the pipeline and the latest is the Samsung Moment for the Sprint Network. The Moment is an Android based device and after having the chance to play around with it, I must say it’s one very slick device. And even better, Sprint Navigation (powered by TeleNav) worked beautifully on the device, with the large touch screen providing an excellent view of the application for easy navigation.
We decided to hop in the car and take the Samsung Moment and Sprint Navigation for a quick spin. It was around lunch time and I was craving some Indian food, so you’ll see in the video that we conducted a search for Indian restaurants in our area. Some of the features you’ll see in the demo video include visual and audio turn-by-turn directions, full text-to-speech including spoken street names, real-time traffic information and our point of interests search including rated listings.
The Samsung Moment hit stores this past Sunday, November 1. If you’re looking for a new phone and want something that will make your friends jealous, the Samsung Moment may be the phone for you. If you’ve already picked one up, tell us what you think about Sprint Navigation. We always appreciate your feedback.
