Did You Know? Tips for Launching TeleNav from Your BlackBerry Outlook Programs

    Friday, February 27th, 2009

For those of you have TeleNav GPS Navigator on your phone, you’re probably very familiar with the three convenient ways to enter an address into the application. You may even have a favorite one that you like to use. Well just in case you forgot the options, here is just a friendly reminder:

    1. You can type the address directly into your handset
    2. You can speak the address using voice recognition
    3. You can enter it via your ‘My TeleNav’ account on our web site and send it to your phone (don’t forget our TeleNav plug-in for your browser to so you can easily save addresses from websites)

We’re always working on new ways to make the service easier to use on your phone so it made sense to us that we should also add the ability to launch TeleNav directly from an address in your Address Book, an appointment in your Calendar or even from within an email. Some of you have asked for this in the past … and we’ve delivered! This capability is initially available for BlackBerry customers using the latest versions of our service.

    Here’s how it works:

When you select a contact in your Blackberry address book, scroll down to their address and then hit the BlackBerry Menu button. The first option you will see is ‘Drive To.’ When you select ‘Drive To,’ TeleNav GPS Navigator will automatically launch and begin giving you turn by turn driving directions from your current location. You could also select ‘Business Search’ (or ‘Search Nearby’) to look for a gas station or restaurant near their office or select ‘Map It’ just to see a general map overview of their location.

Imagine how handy this can be while you’re on the go or to get quick and easy directions to appointments during the day. No need to type in or call in an address.

So give it a try and tell us what you think! Have you already used this before? Let us know! Happy Driving!

AT&T Navigator, Powered by TeleNav, on the BlackBerry Bold

    Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Bold_att_navigatorIn case you missed it, AT&T announced the upcoming launch of the BlackBerry Bold today. It will be available for purchase on Nov. 4th.

Here’s a sneak peak at what AT&T Navigator, powered by TeleNav, looks like on the Bold.

….Speaking of Nov. 4th, if you have not discovered the amazing invention of voting by mail (I am a HUGE fan), then you may be wondering where in the world you are supposed to go to vote on election day.

Wonder no more - just click on this link to search for your polling place. Once you have the address, use the TeleNav Browser Plug-in to send it to your phone via “My TeleNav.” It’s very easy and you’ll now be able to get turn-by-turn directions. Don’t forget to vote!

Preplan Your Trip Online with “My TeleNav”

    Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Do you know you can preplan your trips online and send addresses to your phone for use with TeleNav GPS Navigator later?

It’s easy - go to www.telenav.com and click on “My TeleNav” which is on the top of the page.

You will need to know your phone number and your password. You should have received your password in SMS when you activated your TeleNav GPS Navigator account. If not, or if you want to change your password, please contact our customer care team.

On My TeleNav, you can look for businesses, save addresses, read restaurant reviews and even share locations with other people. Once you find a business or save an address, you can click on “send to phone” and they will be easily accessible in your “My Favorites” folder next time you launch TeleNav GPS Navigator.

This online tool is great for preplanning client meetings or even vacation destinations.

Have any tips for how we can improve it? Let us know!

Have You Tried the TeleNav Browser Plugin?

    Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Author - Mary Beth Lowell - Communications Manager

A few months ago, we launched the TeleNav Browser Plugin which allows TeleNav GPS Navigator customers the ability to save an address to their My Favorites folder directly from a web site.

Once downloaded, the TeleNav plugin looks like this on your toolbar:

    Toolbar_telenav_2

This really comes in handy as a shortcut for saving addresses to MyTeleNav (which will sync up with your phone when you launch TeleNav GPS Navigator).

For example, if I’m looking at a web site for a restaurant to see if I like their menu, I can find the address, highlight it, then click on the TeleNav icon on my browser toolbar. When logged into MyTeleNav, it will automatically save the address for me to use later.

If you haven’t played with MyTeleNav or downloaded the TeleNav Browser Plugin, try them out and let us know what you think. This makes sending and saving addresses to your phone so much easier!

Survey Says … People Still Use Online Maps

    Friday, January 11th, 2008

Yesterday, Hitwise published a very interesting study on American usage of online mapping services like MapQuest and Google.

The study found that in the U.S. visits to mapping Web sites increased 10% in the last year or so. This is contrary to the researcher’s prediction that usage would go down due to increased popularity of GPS navigation services. Additionally, the study found that MapQuest remains the most popular mapping Web site but that Google Maps is catching up.

It’s very interesting to see that despite the fact that 1) more people are buying GPS navigation devices than ever before and 2) usage of GPS navigation services on cell phones is also increasing, people still like to login from their computers to view maps.

Our theory is that people are using both GPS devices as well as online maps – which is why we continue to add more features to our TeleNav Maps service (our free online mapping service) and have also tightly integrated it in with “My TeleNav” which allows TeleNav GPS Navigator users to preplan online. We’ve also launched a browser plug-in so you can type in addresses easily from any browser and preplan that way.

What do you think? Do you think our theory is correct? Do you use both and, if so, why?
