As a consumer, you are no doubt feeling the hit to your wallet as gas prices continue to increase. But it’s not only consumers that have had to rethink their budgets – many businesses and government organizations have had to evaluate their operations costs in order minimize the impact of the "pain at the pump."
Believe it or not, many organizations are turning to GPS technology as a tool for saving gas. There are three main ways that GPS can help do this:
-
Better dispatch/route mobile workers by knowing where they are all at during the day and optimizing their travel
-
Give your mobile workers GPS navigation so they use the shortest routes and don’t get lost; our service also includes daily gas price listings so your employees can find the closest station with the cheapest gas
-
Make sure your employees are not using company vehicles for personal errands
Newsday in New York ran an interesting story today on how some organizations in NY are using GPS to save on gas. Some of the customers profiled are TeleNav Track customers.
In fact, by using a GPS service like TeleNav Track, studies show that organizations can reduce fuel costs by an average of 13.2% (source: Aberdeen Group).
Motorola published a survey recently with similar findings. 50% of the organizations using GPS technology said that saving on gas was the most dramatic result of using the service.
If you’re a manager or business owner with a certain number of mobile workers, you should consider how GPS may help your company save on gas prices. As consumers, we will also reap the benefits since the price of gas for businesses impacts how much we pay for what those businesses produce.
