Finding a Free Wi-Fi Hot Spot

    Friday, August 29th, 2008

Telenav_gps_navigator_wifi_hotspo_3More and more people are working from home these days. A recent survey from WorldatWork shows that 42% of organizations in the U.S. say they offer some sort of telecommuting option to employees.

With an increasing number of coffee shops and restaurants offering Wi-Fi access, many telecommuters find that it’s a nice change of pace to set up shop at their local cafe for the day. This is also a great option if you are a frequent traveler and don’t want to work out of your hotel room.

But how do you know who has Wi-Fi and whether or not you’re going to have to pay for access?

TeleNav GPS Navigator offers an easy way to search for Wi-Fi hot spots around you. Launch the application, go to Business Finder and then click on the Wi-Fi hot spots category. You can search for spots in your nearby vicinity or you can even search near a different address. The latter is great if you are going out of town and want to plan ahead.

And now, we’ve added a new feature - TeleNav GPS Navigator will even tell you if the hot spot location is free or requires a fee.

Don’t forget that you can also preplan online through your My TeleNav account at www.telenav.com. Search for a Wi-Fi hotspot through the Business Finder online, save it to your Favorites and it’s sent directly to your phone!

TeleNav User Forum: Beyond Traditional “Customer Care”

    Friday, August 15th, 2008

Author - Will Thompson - Director, Sales Operations

    Telenav_forum

I certainly hope that all of you are enjoying using TeleNav services and have never experienced any problems.

Just in case you ever do have a question, however, I thought it might be worth highlighting again the various ways that we can provide you with support.

The first place to visit is our main support page on our web site here. On the left navigation bar you’ll see various options - some that you may not even be aware of. For example, we have User Guides available online, FAQs for some of the most commonly asked questions and some basic troubleshooting tips that may provide you with the answer to your exact question.

You are always welcome, of course, to call or email us with questions but I also wanted to be sure to emphasize another program that we have set up to quickly address customers needs - our User Forum.

If you’ve never visited an online forum, I encourage you to click on this link and spend a little bit of timing exploring the layout and the various topics. On the forum you’ll see that we have conversations occurring in real-time on general TeleNav-related topics, tips & tricks, product reviews from customers and even a section where you can provide us with feedback on what we can do better.

We have staff in place monitoring the forum 24×7 so that you can get the answer you need quickly. You may also find that other "TeleNauts" (TeleNav customers) will have ideas or tips to share with you based on their experiences.

We love the idea of creating a TeleNav community of customers (which is also why we created this blog) and I hope that you find the User Forum helpful. Take it for a spin and be sure to give me your feedback!

Frost & Sullivan Helps You Select an MRM Solution

    Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Author - Sal Dhanani - Co-Founder and Sr. Director of Marketing

Frost_sullivan_logoWe’ve shared many case studies on this blog of how companies of all sizes are using GPS on cell phones to improve their overall operations.

Despite all the success stories we’ve posted, you may still be unsure of how GPS solutions like TeleNav Track could help your business or what to consider when looking at the various options available.

Last week, industry analyst firm Frost & Sullivan issued a paper called "Maximizing ROI with MRM: Selecting the Right Mobile Resource Management Solution" and it may be a tool that can help you sort out any questions you have if you are considering an MRM solution like TeleNav Track.

The paper defines four key MRM purchase criteria and then uses that criteria to compare various options (including TeleNav Track). The paper also provides more information on the ROI that organizations are experiencing with MRM, including reduced fuel and labor costs and improved job completion rates.

Frost & Sullivan finds MRM so compelling that it forecasts over 11 million MRM users in the U.S. alone by 2013 … which means if you aren’t using an MRM solution, your competitors may get a leg up.

As the press release states, you can get a copy of this paper for free by emailing Frost & Sullivan directly. The contact person is Mireya Castilla and her email address is mireya.castilla@frost.com.

CR England Increases Revenue and Improves Customer Satisfaction with TeleNav Track

    Monday, August 11th, 2008

Author - Mary Beth Lowell - Communications Manager

Cr_england_logoWe’ve posted examples like this in the past of how organizations are improving business processes through GPS-enabled TeleNav Track on mobile phones but today’s announcement with trucking company CR England may be one of the best case studies yet.

CR England delivers goods for DHL, Wal-Mart, and other large retailers in the U.S. and Mexico - you may have seen their trucks on the road.

Using TeleNav Track on 80 AT&T BlackBerry smartphones, the company can monitor drivers’ locations and travel activity to provide more accurate information to clients. This has allowed CR England to increase customer satisfaction to 99% and attract $1.8 million in new annual revenues.

In addition, the company has enhanced other aspects of its business using TeleNav Track including clearer customer communication, a boost in staff morale, and an increased focus on innovate and creative ways to improve services.

Need more examples of how TeleNav Track is helping businesses large and small? Stay tuned …

Traffic: Why Is There So Much and How Do We Fix It?

    Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Author - Ky Tang - Marketing Director

TrafficEver wonder why there is so much traffic? Maybe you attribute it to more drivers on the road, more accidents or just more people who "don’t know how to drive."

Well, according to one author, you may not be completely wrong but you also are not completely right.

Tom Vanderbilt, a magazine freelancer, has spent some time researching this subject and has recently published a book called Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do and What it Says About Us.

Among many discoveries, Vanderbilt offers a few facts from his research:

    • Drivers think small cars are farther away than they actually are.
    • Men honk their horns more than women; men and women honk more at women; drivers in cities honk more than people in small towns; and drivers are more reluctant to honk at drivers in nice cars.
    • A 4-way intersection has 56 potential points of "conflict" - meaning the chance to run into a car or person; a roundabout (such as those in the UK), however, reduce this number to 16
    • "Late merging" - or waiting to merge until the last minute (you know you do it), would make good sense if every driver did it and takes his/her turn

Since TeleNav has focused a lot of its technology on helping people get out of traffic, I’m fascinated by some of his research, although whether or not it will help me avoid accidents is to be determined.

For a good overview of some of Vanderbilt’s other findings, read this USA Today article, or check out is blog here.

What do you think? Do you buy any of these ideas? What do we really need to do to "fix" our traffic problems?

Have You Tried the TeleNav Browser Plugin?

    Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Author - Mary Beth Lowell - Communications Manager

A few months ago, we launched the TeleNav Browser Plugin which allows TeleNav GPS Navigator customers the ability to save an address to their My Favorites folder directly from a web site.

Once downloaded, the TeleNav plugin looks like this on your toolbar:

    Toolbar_telenav_2

This really comes in handy as a shortcut for saving addresses to MyTeleNav (which will sync up with your phone when you launch TeleNav GPS Navigator).

For example, if I’m looking at a web site for a restaurant to see if I like their menu, I can find the address, highlight it, then click on the TeleNav icon on my browser toolbar. When logged into MyTeleNav, it will automatically save the address for me to use later.

    Saving_an_address

If you haven’t played with MyTeleNav or downloaded the TeleNav Browser Plugin, try them out and let us know what you think. This makes sending and saving addresses to your phone so much easier!

TeleNav and GPS Assists the Construction Industry

    Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Author - Mary Beth Lowell - Communications Manager

Nobile_constructionWith the housing market the way it is today, buyers and sellers are not the only ones impacted by the turn in the economy. Builders and remodelers have also been affected and must ensure they are doing all that they can to run efficient organizations in order to stay in business.

As GPS has helped other industries save on costs, so has it helped the construction industry. Today, TeleNav announced one such success. A company based in Branford, CT called Nobile Construction is using TeleNav Track to develop more efficient business processes and save on fuel.

One of the features of TeleNav Track that Nobile Construction is leveraging is its GPS-enabled time card capabilities. Nobile’s employees are able to clock-in and clock-out directly from their cell phones. This cuts down on unnecessary trips to and from the home office (saving on gas costs!) and also allows employees to submit their time on a daily basis, improving overall accuracy in job time keeping.

Nobile’s use of TeleNav Track was recently highlighted in a construction magazine called Remodeling Online. This is just another way that TeleNav is helping businesses become more efficient and save on costs.

    GPS Helps Businesses Go Green

    Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Author—Sal Dhanani - Co-Founder and Sr. Director of Marketing

Going_greenWe released results of a survey today that showed that 50% of business managers would implement a GPS solution for their company if they knew it would help the company reduce carbon emissions and become more "green."

Our announcement also higlighted a recent Aberdeen Group study which showed that companies who use services like TeleNav Track have seen a 19.2 percent reduction in miles traveled since using the service. This results in less fuel consumption, which represents nearly 98 percent of the carbon dioxide emitted into the environment.

While you may have your own opinion on what it takes to become green as a consumer or as a business, it’s hard to debate the fact that any reduction in carbon emissions helps our environment. Besides that, many companies are now discovering the business benefits (translation: cost savings) of going green.

If companies can use GPS services like TeleNav Track and TeleNav GPS Navigator to help them improve efficiencies and save money, they really should be considering these solutions.
