TeleNav Rides with Joe to Support Wounded Warriors

    Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

    Wimg1img_2956

We love hearing from you about how you have used TeleNav products. We have read some great stories!

The other day we received an email from one of our customers who is using TeleNav GPS Navigator to help guide him across the country as he rides for 8 weeks to benefit Wounded Warriors.

Joe Villa is riding 8000 miles on a motorcycle and his journey is taking him around the country and even into Canada. Joe writes: "I have TeleNav on my Sprint Mogul … I did very little preplanning and decided to plan as I go. TeleNav has helped me negotiate my way to Canada, find repair centers for my bike and hotels in out of the way places … it has helped my cause and kept me on track so far."

You can read all about Joe’s ride, follow his progress, and learn more about his fundraiser on his web site here.

Best of luck to Joe and keep the great stories coming!

TeleNav User Forum: Beyond Traditional “Customer Care”

    Friday, August 15th, 2008

Author - Will Thompson - Director, Sales Operations

    Telenav_forum

I certainly hope that all of you are enjoying using TeleNav services and have never experienced any problems.

Just in case you ever do have a question, however, I thought it might be worth highlighting again the various ways that we can provide you with support.

The first place to visit is our main support page on our web site here. On the left navigation bar you’ll see various options - some that you may not even be aware of. For example, we have User Guides available online, FAQs for some of the most commonly asked questions and some basic troubleshooting tips that may provide you with the answer to your exact question.

You are always welcome, of course, to call or email us with questions but I also wanted to be sure to emphasize another program that we have set up to quickly address customers needs - our User Forum.

If you’ve never visited an online forum, I encourage you to click on this link and spend a little bit of timing exploring the layout and the various topics. On the forum you’ll see that we have conversations occurring in real-time on general TeleNav-related topics, tips & tricks, product reviews from customers and even a section where you can provide us with feedback on what we can do better.

We have staff in place monitoring the forum 24×7 so that you can get the answer you need quickly. You may also find that other "TeleNauts" (TeleNav customers) will have ideas or tips to share with you based on their experiences.

We love the idea of creating a TeleNav community of customers (which is also why we created this blog) and I hope that you find the User Forum helpful. Take it for a spin and be sure to give me your feedback!

Top 10 Olympic Searches for TeleNav Customers

    Monday, August 4th, 2008

Author - Aly Lalji - Senior Carrier Marketing Manager

2008beijingolympicsUnless you don’t have a radio, TV or computer (which means I guess you are reading this by carrier pigeon), you probably know that the 2008 Summer Olympics begin later this week in China.

If you’re one of the lucky (and adventurous) ones who are headed over to China to watch some of the games, you may be wondering how you are going to get around, find places to eat, shop, tour, etc.

In case you missed it, last week AT&T announced that you can now use AT&T Navigator (powered by TeleNav) in 20 countries - including the major cities hosting the Olympic games in China. This is a great option - not only for those of you considering driving around town, but even for those on foot. Navigation is available in "pedestrian mode" which means you can search our database for the restaurants, hotels, ATMs, Olympic venues, etc. and get walking directions on your cell phone. It’s your own personal concierge!

For the rest of us who are staying back home and prefer (or have no choice but) to watch the games on TV, all is not lost. Here is my top 10 list of Olympic-related TeleNav GPS Navigator business searches (type these in the Business Finder directory when you launch TeleNav):

    1. Pubs - What’s better than watching some of the games with friends at the local pub?
    2. Grocery Store - If your answer to #1 is "watching it at someone else’s house" use this search to find the closest grocery store near them so you can bring your share of the snack food.
    3. Chinese restaurants - Prefer takeout over snack food? Order Chinese and you can get a "taste" of what all the Olympians are eating.
    4. Coffee - This will come in handy to find the closest Starbucks the morning after a late night of Olympic games.
    5. Pool - Michael Phelps is putting all of us couch potatoes to shame - use this keyword to find your local public pool to see if you can beat his record. Did I mention Synchronized Swimming? Ok, I won’t.
    6. Gym - Prefer to try out other sports? Hit the gym and pull together your own basketball team or try out the spinning class in spirit of Cycling (also good for those of you who just finished watching the Tour de France).
    7. Archery range - They make it look so easy, right? Test it out - I think you’ll be surprised.
    8. Taekwondo - Find the closest studio to try out some lessons.
    9. Canoe or Kayak - I may be biased to this because I’m from the Pacific Northwest, but try finding a local canoe or kayaking club/rental facility. This is great for those warm summer days.
    10. Sports store (alternative: Walmart or Costco) - Did you know there is a Trampoline competition during the Olympic games? What about Table Tennis (known to most as "ping pong") - get yourself a trampoline and ping pong table, and you may be a contender for 2012!

Using Whereboutz During the LA Earthquake

    Friday, August 1st, 2008

La_earthquakeHaving experienced three earthquakes already in my lifetime (two in Seattle and one in the Bay Area), I cringe every time I see a headline about an earthquake. It can be a really terrifying experience.

Thank goodness the Los Angeles earthquake this week was relatively mild and caused only minor damage. (Kudos to the Californians who seem to have learned the hard (and horrible) way about earthquake readiness.)

Naturally, though, after the earthquake, everyone got on their phones to call loved ones to make sure friends and family were safe and accounted for. Unfortunately, that surge of calls can have a major impact on phone systems and, indeed, there were outages associated with the LA quake.

The good news is that in this day and age, we have other quick (and sometimes more effective) resources for getting in touch with one another. I read on CNET that many people used Twitter, for example, to let friends and family know they were ok.

I really hope that people were also able to use our Facebook application, Whereboutz, which, in my opinion, is a perfect (and free) way to quickly let all of your Facebook buddies know with one entry where you are and what you are doing. You can even do it directly from your mobile phone (provided you have cell phone coverage) - which is quicker then calling everyone and also helps cut down on network congestion.

I mentioned using Whereboutz for something like this in a blog post when we initially launched it. I know I intend to use it this way if (God forbid) I experience another earthquake or natural disaster in Seattle. My sister is on Facebook, my husband is on Facebook, etc. It just makes sense as long as I have access to a computer or cell phone.

Whether it’s Whereboutz or another online social network, it’s worth exploring these options as a supplement to your natural disaster communication plan.

Anyone in LA or otherwise use Whereboutz for this purpose?

    TeleNav Saves the Day!

    Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Author - Melissa McCleskey - Marketing Coordinator

Superhero_3 As an employee of TeleNav, I run into people all the time who like to tell me how TeleNav GPS Navigator has gotten them out of a jam.

I’ve talked to a college student who used TeleNav to find everything she needed to set up her new dorm and a girl who was lost in the city late one night and used TeleNav to find her way home. I spoke with a guy who used the ratings and reviews to find a restaurant that would impress the girl of his dreams. I’ve even corresponded with a man who was able to locate an urgent-care center when his daughter came down with a high fever while on vacation.

I’m proud to work at TeleNav because I can say that, from time to time, our product really does save the day! I love hearing new stories about how TeleNav has come through in a pinch. You can read some great ones here from a contest we ran back in January.

My favorite story from my own life was the time I used TeleNav to find a place to buy a new pair of pants when I spilled my coffee right before an important meeting out of town.

If you have a great story about how TeleNav GPS Navigator has saved the day in your life, please let us know!

Top Ten 4th of July “Biz Finder” Searches

    Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Author - Melissa McCleskey - Marketing Coordinator

4th_of_julyThe 4th of July is less than a couple of weeks away and in the spirit of the season, I thought I’d pull together a top 10 list of Independence Day-related searches where TeleNav’s "Biz Finder" could come in handy.

    1. Park or beach - Looking for a fun place to take the kids? This will give you a list of all the parks or beaches around you.

    2. Grocery store - You probably know where you like to shop around your home, but this could come in handy if you’re out of town or headed to a friend’s house and need to pick up an appetizer.

    3. Party supplies - If you need to pick up some red, white and blue napkins, cups, placemats, etc.

    4. Flag - This will list out for you any local flag stores where you can be sure to get a high-quality flag for your house.

    5. Airport - If you are headed out of town this year or picking up relatives from the airport, you can find your way to the closest one using this keyword.

    6. Liquor store - Remember, in moderation!

    7. Taxi cab - Just in case you forget about "moderation."

    8. ATM - It’s always good to have cash in hand in case you need to pay for parking, hot dogs, cotton candy or lemonade.

    9. Movie theater - I always enjoy catching the matinee of the summer blockbuster on my day off.

    10. Gas station - Don’t forget that you can also search for "gas by price" in order to get the cheapest gas!

Can you think of any others?

62% Increase in Gas Price Searches

    Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Author—Sal Dhanani - Co-Founder and Sr. Director of Marketing

    8310_fuel_finder

We promise not to spend all of our time posting on gas prices this month but I do want to share a quick tidbit we’ve discovered about our "Fuel Finder" service in TeleNav GPS Navigator.

We did a bit of digging and found out that since January of this year, there has been a 62% increase in the use of this service. That means more and more of you are discovering how helpful it is to look for daily gas price listings on your phone using TeleNav GPS Navigator.

This is pretty remarkable and we’re glad to be helping out as much as possible. Here is a link to an article on this topic which ran this week in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Any interesting stories of how this feature has worked for you?

(By the way, for those of you who haven’t tried it, look for "Gas By Price" listed in your Business Listings directory of TeleNav GPS Navigator).
