Hi Telenav iPhone Customers –

I’d like to provide some clarification about how you can get your one year of Scout Plus for free for a limited time (offer expires 8/25/12 at 11:59pm PST). We’re receiving a lot of questions about this and to make the process simpler, we created a set of step-by-step instructions below on how to do it.

Note that during this process, you’ll be asked to provide a valid email address. Please be sure to double check the spelling.

A few other things to know before you start:

  • Please do not purchase a Scout subscription
  • When registering, enter your valid information (name, email) – Do not press “Skip” at any point

How to Claim Your One-Year Free of Scout

Step 1: Download “Scout by Telenav” in the AppStore.

Step 2: Once downloaded, launch Scout.

Step 3: Proceed through the Scout registration process and do not press “Skip” at any point. In order to set you up with your one-free year of Scout, we need your account information and a valid email address.

Step 4: At the “Special Offer” screen, select “30 Day Trial.” If you do not see this option, see below.

Please note: If you have previously used the 30 day trial, it will not appear as a selectable option.


If you do not see the 30 day trial option, please select, “No thanks, use Scout without voice guidance.”


Step 5: After tapping “Let’s Go!,” you are finished with the registration process.

If in Step 4, you selected the 30-day free trial, you’ll be immediately given access to our premium features including offline maps and lane assist, just to name a few. Also, don’t worry – We’ll set you up with your free one-year subscription before your trial ends.

If instead you didn’t see the 30-day option and, as instructed, selected “No thanks, use Scout without voice guidance,” you’ll need to call our support line at 1-888-353-62841-888-353-6284 to finish setting up your account. Please let our support team know you’re calling about setting up your free one-year subscription to Scout for iPhone and that you would like to be transferred to Tier 2 Support.

      Hi, just wanted to find out if there is any success yet in finding a solution to this prob. I am a home health nurse and had to purchase another product that did not measure up. Please tell me we are close to a solution because scout does not measure up either. Thank you for your help:)

        Can I ask what about Scout doesn’t measure up? It’s very similar in features and offers more advanced options like offline mapping.

    Hi, I followed your directions for the free trial and it works great. Web I go to account settings, it says my trial will end sept 24, 2012. Will that change at some pt to extend for a yr? I do have a telenav subscription, and it seems to have picked up on that I think…thanks!

    I just found out about this offer. It is now expired. Some of us have only been checking the App Store periodically in the hope that Telenav has been fixed. How can we get a refund of the 9.99 spent? Whenever I call the customer service line, no one answers. How much time can

    I downloaded the scout app as suggested due to Telenav app not working but accidentally hit the “skip” button. Is there anyway I can get the year service for free since my years subscription wasn’t up until March 2013?

    i am an IPhone S user of Telnav. i discovered that the most recent update to Telnav does not work the ‘hard way’. it wasn’t very pleasant, but i survived.

    get on your website today and discover that you knew this (but did not inform us through the ITunes store???) and that Scout is a work around until you get your act together.

    so, i download scout, but cannot get past the special offer screen.

    none of the links is active (except ‘learn more…”) and it just sits there. so, now what?

    i like your service when it works, but am obviouslybeing tempted to go elsewhere as there are too many problems in execution – hope you can help me with this today… if you want to call me i am at 314-872-8900 8-4:30 CDT…

    Hi,
    I have been using the Telenav Navigation. Purchased the program at the end of July. During a recent road trip the voice changed for over the speaker to so quiet I had to hold it to my ear to hear it with the volume set as high as possible. I have just delete it and re-installed and it’s asking me to pay for the program again. Please tell me how I can correct this or refund my payment.

      Can you try this and let me know if this solves this for you?

      1. Start a route.
      2. Once your route is launched, press on the black arrow at the top left of the screen. You should here her give an audio command.
      3. While she is speaking, turn the volume up using the volume button on the left side of your phone. You should only have to do this once.

        Can you tell me since I had purchased the app. Deleted then re-installed it asked me to purchase it again. I’m guessing this is just normal start up offers and I am recognized and purchasing?

    I have been patiently waiting for a fix only to discover yesterday that a offer for Scout was posted on 8/23/12, but expired on 8/25. I downloaded Scout yesterday for a 30 day trail and it works fine. How can I get a refund for my prior subscription or get this offer extended as I never received any communications.

    I’ll give you guys props since you’re taking so much flak…I had all the problems with the upgrade to GPS plus and could not get the workaround to function at all. I downloaded Scout and after it recognized my username from my Telenav GPS account it just offered me the 1 year of free Scout service with no further questions. Seems to be working great, I’m about to go try it out. Thanks! I hope you get the bug fixed in the GPS Plus app soon, it was great.

    In app store it says ״for a limited time download and get scout plus with voice turn by turn directions for free. No strings attached” after downloading it askes if I want to continue for 1 year free. Is it free or only for 1 year. If only for 1 year why no mention in app store. And how can I get my favorite places I had with telnav on my blackberry

    So what happens when the free year is up? Does my apple account automatically get charged the next year fee? Or do you have to re new it? I could not find out any information. I have already opened the app and signed in thinking I might try it and see if I like it. Also if I delete the app, in a year from now will I be charged if I don’t even have it anymore.       Hi Rachel – You will not be charged without accepting it as we do not automatically renew. When a subscription is almost up, our app with notify our customers asking if they would like to continue with the subscription or alternatively with the free option with no voice guidance, etc.

    I purchased the premium version of your application and have had most of the problems already posted to your website. My questions are this:

    > I did not find out about the “free” version you offered until after it was no longer being offered. How will I be compensated for the inconvenience of the upgrade that reduced the utility of this application? (I REALLY miss voice guidance. Without it this application is much better than all of the free apps out there.)

    > IF there is a way to upload “Scout” for free will it affect the version that I paid for? If so how?

    > IF I upload “Scout” and you finally fix the version I have (and updated) what will happen to the updated version?

    This really was one of the better applications out there. In fact, because of it I didn’t add the nav package on my new car nor have I bothered purchasing a more cumbersome stand-alone GPS product. Seriously, get your act together FAST. You had a good market position but the longer it takes to fix this the more that position diminishes.

      1. We’ve extended the offer on Scout until this Friday, September 21st.

      2. It will not affect your Telenav GPS.

      3. I’m not certain I follow this question. If you download the most recent version of Telenav, all of your issues will be fixed. You’ll also have the option to receive a free year of Scout by Telenav with all our premium features ($24.99 value). Not certain if this answers your question? Please let me know.

    I upgraded to iOS 6 last night. This morning when I tried installing Scout for the first time ever it freezes after I enter my password info and press next. After leaving the app and returning a few times it shows a blank black screen.

    Update: finally got past the black screen. Next one was a choose your offers screen and I saw the free plus service for a year. Thank you for that . Though it seems to contradict the signup instructions in your blog.

    Anyway thanks for making this available I look forward to trying your app.

      Hi Burt – Can you check to see if there’s an update for Telenav? We saw this issue recently but it’s since been fixed which we released in the AppStore.

      Hi Burt –

      Please try this:

      1. On your iPhone home screen, double tap the “home button” on the front of the iPhone. A row of app icons should appear.

      2. Find the Telenav icon and hold it down until it begins to “shake.” A red icon should appear on it.

      3. Tap the red icon and Telenav should disappear.

      4. Again, double tap the “home” button on the front of the iPhone and you should return to your iPhone’s home screen.

      5. Restart Telenav and try starting a navigation route.

    I would like to use your app on a IPOD Touch 4th gen. I plan on using it with my phones a Blackberrys hotspot. But when I went to download your app it says it is not compatible. I would like to take advantage of the free offer but it will not let me. Any ideas?

    I purchased a one year subscription to Telenav a few weeks ago for my iphone 4s. It worked beautifully for about three weeks. All of a sudden it abruptly stopped working. I have tried everything to resolve this, ie rebooting the phone, turning off wi fi etc and nothing fixed it. So now I try to down load scout as suggested. I have the icon on my phone and it does absolutely nothing. I click on the S (scout) and it is frozen. I dont know what to do. I paid for the telenav app and am not able to use it or scout. What next??? Help!
