Dear valued Telenav customers,

We would like to apologize again for the issues that you may be experiencing with the recent update to our Telenav GPS and Telenav GPS Plus apps on the iPhone. We are investigating and testing fixes with Apple. Right now, it appears the issue is limited to iPhone 4S devices. We will continue to work around the clock and during the weekend to determine the root of the issues and to fix them as soon as possible.

We know many of you rely on our service and have found yourself without the GPS navigation service you depend on. We sincerely regret any inconvenience you have experienced due to these issues. We know the experience has been frustrating, to say the least.

While we continue to work on fixing the issues with Telenav GPS, we would like to offer you a potential alternative GPS service.

As you may know, we also have an application on the iPhone called Scout by Telenav. Scout by Telenav is similar to Telenav and includes some unique features like offline navigation, which gives you GPS navigation when you’re outside of wireless coverage.

We would like to offer you the option of a free year of Scout by Telenav premium service (currently $10/year – similar to Telenav GPS). Scout by Telenav has not been impacted by this update. If you are interested, please feel free download Scout by Telenav on your phone (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/scout-by-telenav/id467816643?mt=8) and sign up for the 30-day free demo of the premium upgrade. Anyone who does this within the next week will automatically receive a free year of premium service. After you sign up for the 30-day demo, no additional action is required on your part. We will activate a year of service for you. This offer is available until 11:59pm on Saturday, August 25th, 2012.

(UPDATE: If you have tried the 30 day free trial in the past, the app will unfortunately not let you sign up for the free demo again. If this is the case, please select the free Scout option (“No thanks, use navigation without voice guidance”) and then register with your email address. Once you’ve done this, please call our Customer Care team at 1 888 353 6284 and ask for Tier 2 support. They will be able to activate one year of free service for you. Thank you for your patience through this process.)

We realize that this is not the ideal situation as, unfortunately, the accounts cannot be cross-referenced so we cannot automatically populate your Favorites or Recent Places into your Scout by Telenav account. However, we do want to make sure that you have access to reliable GPS navigation service while we are working on Telenav GPS.

If you are running into problems with downloading Telenav GPS and have not already tried this workound, please do so. We have also found that it may work better if you turn off WiFi on your phone first.

If you are running into billing issues or have questions about refunds, please call our Customer Care team at 1 888 353 6284 and ask for Tier 2 support.

    I downloaded Scout and had to pay the $2.99 for the upgrade for a month. I thought that was supposed to have been automatic. I’m sure you’re working as hard as you can to fix this as you know what we all know, once we’re gone, we’re gone.

      I Paid for a one year subscription 12-2011. I was just prompted to update. So ended up paying another $9.99.
      Then nothing works and was told to use Scout, and paid another $9.99. Now after I am forced to do my own research, learn I should not have just spent $18.88.
      Please refund this to me so that I may continue to have confidence in your product. I really do like it!
      Please don’t join the rest of Corporate America as you seem to have found an easy way to take my money and then make it difficult to simply return the product.

        It should not be a problem to refund you for both based on what you’ve stated. If you could please call our Customer Care team at 1 888 353 6284 and ask for Tier 2 support, they will do this for you. Call volumes are abnormally high right now so if you want to wait until later this week, they will still be able to do this then. I’m sorry for the frustrating experience.

      I just downloaded Scout Telenav and realized I missed the free year by one day!! I rely on this service and refuse to have to pay the money again in 30 days. I have my receipt and would appreciate so guidance with this issue. I have a iPhone 4S devices and have tried everything to get this app to work. Can I still receive the 1 year free? Please contact me regarding this VERY important issue. I purchased this app 2 months ago and if you cannot work with me I will be requesting my monies back.

    No one seems to be answering your phones. Held for 8 minutes (I don’t even know if I chose the right option to be able to even ask for Tier 2 Support) and never spoke to a human. I gave up. I don’t think I paid twice (although I could have, I was driving in traffic 4 hours away from home, desperately trying to get it to tell me how to get back to my hotel), but I would like the free Scout offer — I think.

    Thank you for providing a temporary fix to the problem. I will definitely attempt to download my free year subscription. In the meantime, I purchased the year subscription of Telenav GPS Plus for $9.99 a couple of months ago. Once you fix the problem, will Telenav recognize my subscription or will I have to resubscribe and pay again?

    Today I decided to download the AT&T navigator powered by Telenav. I paid $9.99 for the month. Guess what; all my data and information from my original version of Telenav, the one that’s no longer working appeared in the AT&T navigator! This includes my recent locations and all of my favorites! Further Telenav have worked perfectly as AT&T navigator today on my IPhone 4S! The version of AT&T navigator appears to be the original version of Telenav that was updated that has no longer worked.. Thus, as a suggestion you guys should offer 1 to 2 months of AT&T navigator to customers such as myself that’s been affected by this until you can get the updated version working. That is a better alternative versus downloading Scott.

    I have downloaded Scout as directed above, however & unfortunately, this app ALSO is returning a “Sign In Failed – Please Try Again” error. I have an existing trouble-ticket# already opened since all hell broke loose last week with the update. Since this is NOT recognizing my account passcode, even as tested by Tier 2 and Engineering, along with the screenshot I was requested to email of this error, this is NOT a workaround for me at all. Luckily the impact thus far is minimal but now we’re starting a new week – one with quite a bit of tomorrow – & all of which will be without ANY GPS unless I go to App outside of Telenav given the “Scout” App fails to recognize my account as well. While I have been patient with Telenav working around the clock to (eventually) resolve this, understand OUR positions as the consumer that this update/upgrade has seriously impacted the credibility of Telenav, particularly with a “Workaround” that also does NOT WORK!!! Thank you for your time – will be placing my daily call to Tier 2 once 9AM in California comes around!!!

    I downloaded Scout and it recognized me as a customer of TeleNav. The download went fine but I didn’t see any “30 day free subscription” just $2.99 for 30 days, $9.99 for a year. I didn’t want to go through the $2.99 purchase, but should I do this?

    I’m not really interested in another product. I would very much like to have the old version. Please provide a link or send me info on how to recover the old version.

    I can’t tell you how disappointed I am in this. Since I don’t know all the details I won’t cast blame, but you have a serious issue here. The best thing for you to do is to pull the bad update and replace it with the one that works. I can tell you for sure, if I don’t get the old version back, I will certainly not be renewing my subscription.

    The management response to this is unbelievble poor. Admit the mistake, roll back, solve the problems and re-release when its really ready.

      I’m very sorry that this has been such a hassle. We definitely know that this is frustrating for many customers and are working around the clock to research and fix the problem. Unfortunately, Apple does not provide us with the capability of reverting back to an earlier version so this is not a possibility. Even if it were, it would impact all of the customers who successfully downloaded the new version.

      I realize that Scout by Telenav is not a full substitute but we’re hoping that it will be a potential alternative for those who need GPS navigation while we work on this fix.

    Same as before.
    Since Apple has their rules that prevent giving us back the old product, why not make it available through another means, download, etc?

    I’m willing to continue to use the product, just not v7 and am not willing to wait until the developers figure things out. If I cant have a product that works, I’m not interested.

    I also had to pay 9.99 and I called your costumer care number and they where of no assistance I was very frustrated today when I was unable to use my service to go meet the guy who was ran off the road with my brother which caused my brothers death if that was not nerve racking enough then to have my navigation not work just made me more flustered so I downloaded scout and paid the 9.99 and called your customer service and got no assistance need less to say I am a bit disappointed but I do need the service it just sucks I had to pay when I already paided and the website claims it free

    I was able, with the help of tech support to get my free year of Scout. It downloaded fine the problem is it is not accurate or reliable. I tested it this morning on my way to work. I took a wrong turn on propose and it took almost a 1/2 mile to “re calculate” and when it did the voice guidance no longer worked. Good thing I know where I was going, if I was traveling it could have been a big problem.

Selected no thanks on the install for subscription and called Cust support to provide one year of voice guidance for scout for free. After a lengthy hold time, my phone died right when rep was giving me the case number. Can you please add scout voice nav to my account?

    I can’t even get anyone on the phone. This is ridiculous. I am a paid subscriber. Okay, so I download Scout as you suggest, then try to call and nothing but horrible elevator music (counting against my cell minutes). How can your company survive after this debacle.

    Ever since I updated this app, there has been nothing but problems. It now works when it wants to. I had to use Google Maps, of all things, to navigate my way around a state I am unfamiliar with all weekend long. The reason for purchasing this app was because of the voice commands. Now that I have a day to do my own research, I see that Telenav is now directing people to Scout and offering free premium service for a year. HA!, it doesn’t even give that option. I never took advantage of 30 day trial before. I called the toll free number as this blog states and it seems every Tier 1 agent is clueless in the transfer process. The first agent hung up, the second agent refused to transfer me without me providing her a reference number and finally I called again to speak with a supervisor and was told that supervisor is not available. I hung up this time and called back. Finally, I found an agent that transferred me to Tier 2. John, you are not alone. I have been on hold now for 20 minutes waiting for someone to answer my call. I guess supervisor’s really are not available to notice that they have calls holding in queue as long as they are.

    Well, I guess if this call reaches 30 minutes, my next step is to request a refund since Telenav clearly is not providing the service I paid for.

    I am trying to load Scout and it is asking me to pay the 2.99! This is VERY frustrating. My Telnet will not load direction and all your “work arounds” have failed. Now your “free” solution is not free. Very confusing. I will pay the 2.99 because I need a Nav system, but please have it refunded ASAP

    Like many others I have been a very happy customer of TeleNav prior to the recent updates, with the latest update 7.0.0.15 I have had nothing but problems.

    Today I downloaded the Scout by TeleNav app to my Iphone 4s with no problems, it asked me for my e-mail and password then went straight to the app, also all of my information that I had set up such as home address and work were all were all still there, I have not actually used it yet for navigation however I did test voice navigation functions as well as other functions and they are all working well.

    Another thing that I like about Scout as opposed to the other TeleNav app is that once I end trip and get out of the app it stops the location service so that it won’t drain the battery, the other app had to be deleted from the history in order to make location services stop running.

    I will re post once I have had a chance to use the navigation for a couple of days, and or if I encounter any problems or issues.

    So like everyone else, I downloaded the upgrade on my iPhone 4 and the app does not work. I then proceeded to download “Scout” and it will not let me download the upgrade so I can use voice guidance. It will not bring me any further than the “Special Offer” Screen which asks you if you want to upgrade.

    I did pay a one year subscription thru Telenav, so what exactly am I supposed to do to be able to use the voice guidance?

    I followed the instruction to kill the app while Scout by Telenav was downloading. I had no problems bypassing the $2.99 and selecting “no thanks, navigation without voice guidance.” And once I tried the suggested procedure to kill the app, it downloaded and worked just fine.

    I appreciate the concern and options you are giving to your customers until you get this issue addressed with iPhone 4s users. If people only had more patience and would actually read and follow your instructions it more than likely would solve their problems. Bashing your company is pointless. I’ve tried several navigation programs and I think yours is by far the best. You still have loyal customers, like me.

      Although we realize that offering Scout as a solution for the current issues to Telenav GPS isn’t ideal, we also are quite aware that there are many customers out there who rely on our app every day for things like their job or travel. As such, not having navigation was not an option for these people and we needed to offer them support – even if it wasn’t Telenav GPS. Hopefully while we continue to remedy the most recent update to Telenav, our customers are able to get around using Scout.

    Contact Tier 1 support, rebooted phone, removed and readded application, logged in. Worked once told that I would not need a free year or to use Scout as the problem was solved.

    Guess what it stil doesn’t work.

    I downloaded Scout and just as Telenav GPS Plus had done when I first upgraded all of the sudden I don’t have a strong enough signal to navigate anywhere. I will try this again as I move further from home but thus far it does not appear better. Ultimately I would be happiest if you allowed us to remove the upgrade somehow from our phones and get the old version of the GPS we had before………….I LOVED THAT. It worked great. I am shopping for a new home and often drive by homes of interest without the GPS working today I couldn’t find a new house that listed today. I will print out the directions (the old fashion way) just in case Scout turns out to be the same disappointment as our recent upgrade.

    IT WORKS!!!…
    I have been lost (literally) for the past week without my Telenav gps. I have been checking periodically to see if the bug has been fixed, and about a 1/2 hour ago I decided to go ahead and install Scout because Telenav still was not working. (I had no problems installing the free 30 day trial, it did not ask me to pay anything as some other users are stating. Also, the Scout app appears to be just as good as Telenav which I was happy about.) So, after installing Scout I decided to give Telenav one more try and to my surprise it magically works now! Either the developers finally got the issue fixed or somehow installing Scout helped fix the problem, but I’m happy to say I now have two awesome WORKING gps apps on my phone (I think I’ll keep Scout just in case there’s another crash, lol)

    The work around worked last week on my iPad2. I was able to load it and to get somewhere I had to go using it on Thursday. Then on Saturday (25th) the ap wouldn’t acquire an address for navigation. I deleted Talenav and re-downloaded if from purchased aps. Again I had the downloading problem after sign-in. I again tried the work around but the icon doesn’t show in the tray after pressing the home button twice, so I can’t do a hard shut down. My wi-fi is off. Therefore the workaround doesn’t work now on my iPad. Thankfully Telenav on my iphone is still working, so I can get where I need to go. HELP!!

      OK I fixed my iPad version. I spent too many years in IT to be daunted by this. Since my iPhone version was working, I deleted the GPS ap from my iPad. Then I synched my iPhone to iTunes. After it finished I synched my iPad. I had to check the box so that GPS would synch. Then I tried it and whoopie!! It worked. :) )))) I am now back in business with GPS on my iPad. Hopefully this time it will continue to work. BTW it still only displays in landscape. The iPhone version displays in both landscape and portrait.

    My Telenav just decide to update Friday night—8/24, so I had no idea there was something wrong with it until I began to download it and then tried to download it several times after that. How is it fair for you to put a deadline on the Scout download so soon when not everybody has seen this? I paid for Telenav for a year and now since I didnt see the deadline alert until Saturday morning—8/25 in the app store, I dont even have the opportunity to get Scout for free anymore and I use Telenav quite often and have been using it.

    On the reload that never happened it sucked my battery dry. I finally just deleted the app. Then when I tried to hook up the Scout version it tried to bill me for the free 30 day version and would not let me out of the system. I have been trying to get help since 8/23. I just called the 888-353-6284 number again and was on hold for 10 min when the phone was answered the woman asked for my phone number, when I gave it to her she cut me off. I called back three times, I got as far as the greeting saying you are sorry you are and then got cut off. My husband depends on this app for his business and used it every day, he is beyond upset and almost ruined his iPhone before I stopped him. Nothing seems to working at your company, why should we trust your product?

    The same problem exists with applying GPS plus to my iPad2, “almost there…”. I deleted the program, and reloaded it, and now it wants me to purchase it again, which I will not do, obviously.     This is the second time that I am posting on this site and I have not received any direction as to whether or not I can still get the scout Nav app for free since my telnav has stopped working on my iPhone 4s. I’ve used telnav a lot in the past and was counting on it for next weekend until your last upgrade made telnav unresponsive.     I’ve always had telenav back when Nextel was big and booming. Since then I’ve used it on my EVO 4G, and Nexus S (All for free, mainly because it was part of plan with sprint) Now when I got my iPhone 4s it didn’t work for two reasons, one was that iPhone (All of them) on any network wouldn’t let use it like android unless you paid for the year, which was odd because with (Sprint Only) GPS is free. But not the iPhone 4, or 4S. WHY?…Not sure. And two even after paying the $11 for the year (Which isn’t a big deal), it worked and after get 4 new iPhone 4S’s because of ISO, and overheating issues. My telenav account worked fine. Now since this update it is the dumb to mock an app like scout to look, feel, do what telenav was already good at. Look I understand that IPhone 4 and 4S are not best phones, but with all the hype around this issue should of been fixed well before you guys did the update, and with the new IOS 6 coming this year. Having a paid account on and IOS Device would be pointless since the new maps has free turn by turn Nav worked in to the ISO. You guys should of did some more R&D on the update and fire the person(s) who came up with this update option for the Iphone. You know the saying: IF IT’S NOT BROKE, DON’T TRY TO FIX IT!!! Well this was not even broke, had some bugs and hold ups here there, but was okay and worked just fine before the update. Scout and TeleNav should be apart from one another. Since Scout is made to with ford’s Motor Company and some AVN’s then that’s what it should be and 2nd add on for those want Nav on the go and in their car. And telenav should just be want it was good for, for people who want GPS for them self or for business. Now I know I’m not getting my money back (And it’s okay, it’s only $11). But since Scout and TeleNav are basically the same thing, you guys should have one App for all phones and devices and one for all cars and OEM/AfterMarket AVN’s. (Sorry if I misspelled anything or talked to much, but it just best to keep thing nice easy for everyone. This way most people are happy).

    I loved Telenav gps so when prompted I signed up for the gps plus. I found that to be a problem from the start. It had trouble loading directions and took forever. I decided instead to get the year subscription to the first Telenav.
    Recently, August 20 I took a trip with my husband. Telenav was starting to have problems shortly after that date. My husband and I decided to use his blackberry to help us get where needed to go. Having had this experience with the plus service I figured it was just a glitch. Once we arrived to our location I didn’t need it. AFTER August 25, I tried loading directions again. Same problem. Got rid of app then tried
    Reloading with new subscription. Not a good idea. It was then I discovered your resolution to the problem. I don’t know how many subscriptions I bought thinking it was my phone or me. No thank you on scout. I would like a refund on ALL my subscriptions.
    It is sad. I loved your original before the update. I told my friends about it. Sometimes the old adage ” if it ain’t broke don’t fix it applies”. Certainly did in this case!
    Anyone got a reliable navigational app out there with a trial program?

Here I now see I could of got a different program for free by the 25 and it’s now the 28, I would of done it but never got any kind of notification. An Telenav can’t say they don’t have the email.     Hi, I downloaded Scout without issue; however, the app just does not work well. It is able to find the route, but the voice navigation is terrible. On one trip, the voice navigation would not recognize the road I was one or even the direction I was traveling. Every 30 seconds, it would decry that is was rerouting. On the next trip, both the routing and voice navigation malfunctioned. Scout tried to end my trip in the middle of I-95–I was trying to find the train station several blocks away. Is this issue unique to my phone? It makes the app almost as useless as the Telenav GPS app. Help! I am spending too much time, energy, and gas making u-turns!

    Wow, your new update freezes on validating addresses, than again on hitting navigation and you only offer this “free year” for a week. So I saw this 6 days late and get screwed. I didn’t have time to get to this before today. You should be able to offer this until you have fixed your problems and have a Program that works. In the meantime, my one year subscription expires soon, how do I make sure it won’t auto renew. I downloaded garmin today, so I won’t get left in the lurch anymore. I’m,not sure I want to renew a subscription that only works half the time.

    I don’t know why it’s taking so long to fix GPS+ for the iPhone 4S. What concerns me is that I will have no idea when it’s fixed. Please create a mailing list and send (a) one message stating that you’ll let us know when it’s working, and (b) the actual message that it’s time to download a new version with instructions on how to do it without blowing out the account.

    Also, why is Scout so much better at actually finding the fastest route. GPS+ regularly sent me headlong into huge freeway delays that Scout manages to find and avert. Please fix GPS+ so it has Scout’s real-time traffic update/routing capability (but not as chatty… Scout’s incessant chatter with the same turn instructions 5 times is maddening).

    This letter from the CEO is SO MISLEADING. I bought Telenav for $9.99 a few months ago. When I tried to use it 4 days ago it would not work. Now I come on this site and it says “we will offer Scout for free just call”. I called and spoke with Jacob ref# 430977082 and he said that this “FREE” service is not “FREE” at all! Only for customers who were charged twice would they issue a refund. So, I would not get the refund. When he read this letter from the CEO he had to go to management because he was confused as was I. Told me he can’t do anything. I will contact iTunes for my refund.

    Can’t you just do a rollback to give us all the previous working version?
    If not how do I get the map to face up as direction of travel – you seemed to have taken this option away.

      Hi Howard –

      Unfortunately, rolling back is not an option as there are many customers who have successfully downloaded the app and are happy with it. Rolling back would change it for these customers as well.

      Regarding changing the navigation view, while in a navigation session, please push the button in the low left hand corner. This should change the angle and make it so while driving, the navigation goes in the direction you’re going.

    Today, I went to the beach front with my children.
    I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
    She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab
    inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to
    go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
