Telenav on iPhone: Known Issues & Temporary Fix for Customers Stuck on “Almost There” Screen

Hi everyone -

Kenji from Telenav here with some information for those of you who haven’t already received it.

Our team is aware that after the latest update to Telenav for the iPhone (GPS by Telenav & Telenav GPS Plus), some of our customers are running into the two following problems:

  • Download freezes on the “Almost there” page
  • Premium subscription may not be recognized AND customers may be prompted to purchase the premium subscription even if they have an existing one: PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE AGAIN

We’re very sorry about any inconveniences this may cause and please be assured our team is doing everything to fix these problems.

Temporary Fix: Stuck on “Almost there” screen
For those of you who are currently running into the issue where your download freezes on the “Almost there” page, some customers have reported that doing a hard-close and restarting the app has helped.

To perform a “force kill” of our app, please follow these instructions:

**** PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR iPHONE’S WIFI IS OFF. To turn this off, go to the iPhone’s Settings Menu.

1. From your iPhone home screen, double tap the home button. A row of app icons will appear on the bottom of the screen.

2. Find & hard press (push & hold) the Telenav GPS app icon until it begins to “shake” and small red icon appears in the upper left hand corner of the app.

3. Tap the red icon on the Telenav GPS app icon. It should now disappear from the row of app icons.

4. Tap the home button twice to return to your iPhone home screen.

5. Find and relaunch Telenav GPS.

    This procedure works for Telenav GPS, but not for GPS Plus, which I have. I am still stuck on that screen–downloading.

    How do I correct this problem? I know I do not need to repurchase the app, but do I do?

      Hi John – Unfortunately, right now until there is a fix in place, there isn’t a workaround. Please be assured that our team is doing everything we can to fix this however.

        This process is a joke. You are put on hold for ever with no assistance. I wish I would have never downloaded the app and wasted my money. Lesson learned!

        By the way to get a refund you cant go through the company that sold the product TeleNav you have to contact ITunes. I am done with this product and will never buy from this company again. Support does not exist!!

          I completely understand your frustration and it’s well deserved. The experience we’ve provided is not something we’re proud of and we’re completely focused on fixing this.

          As you could imagine, right now our call centers are very busy handling customers and we are doing our best to support everyone. I apologize for the long wait time.

    I paid for and downloaded Telenav GPS in May. I used it almost every day without any problems and recommended it to many friends and colleagues. And then I got the “opportunity” to pay another $10 for the update that promised many embellishments. And the App hasn’t worked since.
    I have tried your work around 12X and it hasn’t worked on my Sprint IPhone.
    You can keep my $10 upgrade fee; help me reinstall the original App.

      Hi Arnie – I’m really sorry about this. Can you please try the workaround again with your WiFi off? This has worked for many people.

      Also, can you please see this blog from our CEO: http://blog.telenav.com/blog/?p=2254 In the blog, there is also a phone number to call so you can request a refund, though I may not recommend you call today – our call wait times are higher than normal.

    I did the workaround and got it loading but now it gets hung up when trying to get it to navigate. Was useless to me today

      Hi Sylvia – I’m sorry about this. Can I ask what you mean by getting hung up? Just trying to understand what specifically happened so I can see how to trouble shoot. Did navigation not load? What screen were you on?

        I had this same problem after I got the workaround to work.

        1. enter the address I want to go
        2. it gives me three choices
        3. select the green choice as it is the fastest
        4. it hangs on the loading part. The loading compass just keeps spinning and nothing happens.

    You should not reference your blog on telenavs page in the app store unless you plan to give periodic updates – What you found, How your fixing, ETA for a fix, etc.

    You have managed to destroy a successful company in the snap of a finger. Learn to mitigate while fixing. Every five min you don’t give updates you loose more customers.

    Please help me understand why it works on my IPAD and asking me to pay premium price on my iPhone. All I get is voice guidance? Please help. Need to use the navigation system today. Family is coming to town and I am the tour guide. :)

      Hi Pam – I’m really sorry about this. Unfortunately, this is a bug we’re trying to fix – one where a previously purchased subscription isn’t recognized after the update on the iPhone.

    I finally went to my iPad settings, then location services, and turned off everything including Telenav GPS…kind of a DUH moment…but this might help someone else not waste a bunch of time.

    Thought the problem on my IPAD was solved, but tried to enter a destination and it just kept loading. I exited the program and re-downloaded and now it is again stuck on Almost There.
    What a disappointment. It’s a good thing I also downloaded MapQuest and although not as sophisticated, it works.

      Hi Marilyn – I’m really sorry about this. A few customers have run into this and have been able to fix this by exiting the app (not deleting) and restarting a navigation session in a different area. Can you please try this and see if it works?

      Thank you very much for the kind words, Nancy. We realize that offering Scout isn’t the ideal fix, but we also recognize that there are many customers who rely on our app, whether for their jobs or something else, to help get them places.

      Our team is working around the clock to fix these issues but in the meantime, Scout is a very good option for those who need navigation right now.

    I am unable to activate the voice command feature of Scout without paying for it. I have done a hard close and restart of Telenav with no success. I am willing to wait for your fix but I do need the voice command for when I am driving my clients around showing properties using Scout. Please help me with this issue.

    WisH I would have known about this issue when I “upgraded” my account as we were on a trip…. Would have saved so many headaches!!! Suggestion: you might want to put some type of warning for iPhone users in the app download area so people can see it BEFORE they purchase itt and also say what the issue is so they can RECOGNIZE it If they do!

    And what exactly are you going to do for all these peopl that have paid and are waiting around for this fix?

    Turn off location services, launch app, download will complete. Turn on location services. Fixed.

    I was able to get the workaround to work, but now get hung up with an image of “Loading” with a circular arrow when I enter a destination and choose “Navigate”

    I was out of the country from 8/15 to 8/26, so I’m too late for the free year of scout. Please help and advise ASAP.

    So this app does not work and you have no fix. Why are you still selling it? How do I get my money back?

      Right now, the customers who are experiencing issues with our latest update are specifically iPhone 4S and some iPad users. There are still many iPhone customers who are able to download the app and are happy with it.

    I was able to restart Telnav GPS, howerver:
    1. It seems your map is out of date. Eg., I typed my destination address as “5830 University Research Court, College Park, MD 20740″, what I got back is “University Research Ct. Riverdale Park, MD, 20737″. And at the last route, the destination is pointed toward south instead of going north from River Road.
    2. I asked for voice guidance, I was led to “special Offer”page, asked me to pay $9.99 again! There is no voice guidance after I said “no thanks”
    Just hope you can fix your mess soon. Good luck!

    was able to get the workaround to work first time by doing a hard shut down of the phone itself. When it came back up the download completed. Then I got hung on the loading of the navigation screen.

    1. enter address of place I was going
    2. 3 options came up
    3. chose the green one as it was the fastest
    4. software hung at that point with loading compass spinning.

    unistalled software and reinstalled. now workaround does not finish the initial loading problem.

    I had been using the Telenav GPS with no problems until I downloaded upgrade to the Plus, which I purchased from the Apple App store for $10.81. Well the download never completed the upgrade and I got charged for an upgrade I can’t use. When will you all fix whatever the issue is so that I may complete my upgrade or how can I get reimbursed for for app I can’t even use?

    Thanks for posting the workaround, worked very well on my 4S. I loved the app before and like it very much now as well. What happened to the “shake to address” feature? I used that to give it to my kids when walking home from the park. Worked nicely…..

    My telenav app has been stuck on screen trying to navigate to the location. I restarted the app a few times, no good. Then I downloaded scout It won’t pass the enter email screen. And I followed your instructions to restart app on both apps.

    I got past the stuck download screen, however, it does not let me do voice navigation asking me to pay again even though I had paid the $9.99 for 1 year about 6 months ago. First I was almost 1 month without GPS and now several months without voice. I hope you will extend the 12 months accordingly.

    Fix didn’t work. Actually, the original update that caused problems for so many was fine. The critical bug fix update from several days ago is what now has me stuck… won’t load, update, or revert to previous version that worked. If I hadn’t already paid, I’d delete and re-download. Help please

    I have been using GPS by Telenav for several months and love it. However, I recently received an update notification for it and it will not load it. Every time I try to update, it says “Unable to Download Application ‘GPS by Telenav’ could not be downloaded at this time.” So, I am unable to use the app at all. And I just got the paid version a month ago. :o (

      Hi John – Hmm, this is really unusual as I haven’t seen this happen before.

      Can you please try a soft device reset?

      1. Press and hold down both home key and power button at the same time till device shuts off.

      2. Then try to go to app store – search Telenav – install “GPS by Telenav”

      If this does not work, I would recommend you call Apple as I believe it has to do with the device. If/when you do and you’re good to go, please let me so we can make sure your subscription gets recognized.

    Just deleted the app from my phone and tried to reinstall it fresh. ….Got the same message….“Unable to Download Application ‘GPS by Telenav’ could not be downloaded at this time.” $10 out the window.

    I was able to correct the problem by clicking on the power button & the homepage button at same time to do a soft reset and that worked great.
