Candid conversations about using GPS and wireless technology for work and fun.
Introducing TeleNav “First Look” – We Want to Know What You Think
If you use TeleNav GPS Navigator, AT&T Navigator, Sprint Navigation or any other service that we develop, we’re betting that you have some feedback on what you like and what you don’t like.
Ever wish you could share these ideas directly with our executives or with our development team?
Better yet, what if you could test out new technology and features that we’re working on before anyone else does?
Today, we’re launching TeleNav First Look, an exclusive program for a small group of customers who will get a chance to try out some of our services in advance of launch and tell us what they think.
We’re looking for customers in both the Seattle and San Jose areas who use TeleNav GPS Navigator, AT&T Navigator or Sprint Navigation on select devices (see below) and who will be excited about sharing their feedback and ideas with us.
Here’s the scoop:
- What’s in it for me you ask? We’re looking for customers who are passionate about technology and want to play a part in improving GPS navigation on their phone. As a participant, you’ll get early access to new features and new versions of our service. You’ll also have a chance to meet and share ideas with TeleNav employees and other TeleNav customers.
- What if I don’t like your service? You should get your head examined! No really, we know we can always do better and we definitely want you on board! We can learn best from customers with valuable feedback – positive or critical.
- Does it cost anything? No silly!
- Does it mean I will get the service for free? No, this program is completely voluntary so we will not provide the navigation service for free. But you WILL get early access to new features and new versions of our service as part of your subscription … so you’ll have a chance to try some fun stuff.
- Does it matter what kind of phone I have? Yes, you need to currently use a BlackBerry Bold 9000 with AT&T or a BlackBerry Tour 9630 with Sprint or Verizon.
- Why is it limited to these devices? Customers will be testing beta versions which may launch publicly on other devices but are limited while in beta testing.
- What am I committing to if I join? All we ask is for you to try new services and provide ongoing feedback. We will hold a launch event in (updated) January or February depending on which city you’re in but you will also be able to share your feedback online so there is not a big time commitment. We will provide more details on how this will work once you’re qualified as a candidate.
- Why are you only doing this in Seattle and San Jose? Right now, we’re keeping it focused in this two areas because we have local offices in each. If this program is successful and there is enough customer interest elsewhere, we’ll definitely consider expanding. Which city do you want us to consider?
- How do I get involved? Take this survey to see if you qualify.

Hello, I am on the Sprint service using the BBTour 9630. One recommendation that I have for the current version of SprintNav is that it provides night vision like comparable services (I believe BellTelenav & Telenav.com).
I’m currently using SprintNav v2.8.0.1195.

Hmm.. That’s odd, Tony. It should work. Please feel free to email me if the issue continues. KenjiO@TeleNav.com
Thanks, Sharon, for the feedback! :)

I am just a bit too far north… in Sacramento. I have used sprint navigation for 2.5 years… It has been great on vacation! Love it. We even named the lady voice “Carrie” since we carry her around :-)

My first recommendation would be to make it stable, and make it work! TeleNav has been unstable since I’ve had it, and inoperable since September and you’re looking for beta testers to improve it?
I’ve been a subscriber on my Storm through Telus since January, and TeleNav has broken twice and required re-installation, and now has been down since September – 3+ months – affecting many other users with no projected ETA for a fix. Telus’ only fix has been to deduct it from my bill, which is appreciated but hardly a fix.
I know all software has problems occasionally, but please – 3+ months being completely broken? I really do think diverting resources from adding features to making the product work for those already paying for it would be more appropriate. Renovating a house with a bad foundation hardly makes sense, now does it?

If you need testers in the Chicago land area I would love to help out. This is my number one program on my phone and it has altered my choice in what my next phone was. It has to have TeleNav or I wont buy it.
I have been using TeleNav for 8 or 9 years now and could not live with out it. It is always in my pocket so I never worry how I will get to a place I have never been to before. Also use it all the time to look up and call businesses. THANKS

I love telenav and would love to beta test your upcoming app. I live in the Kansas City, Missouri area though. If you ever open it up to my area, let me know.

How about us Canadian based customers. This app is offered through Rogers and in my opinion, is not properly advertised, or communicated. Need to raise the hype up here and get the proper exposure.

I have used various GPS systems for several year now. I used the service through Verizon Wireless for about a year but eventually swithed to a stand alone device because of the capabilities of exporting the GPX data for use with meta tagging photos and for tracking routes and way points. I also felt that the stand alone device was much more accurate and much quicker to retrieve data. I contributed this to the fact that the map information is stored directly on the device as opposed to map data having to be downloaded. This seemed to really become an issue when in downtown Seattle (an other metropolitan areas)
The one thing I miss is the convenience of having all of my communication and navigation needs wrapped up into one device. I would be interested in participating in this program.

I’m on a Bold 9000 with AT&T in Oakland. Havent used Navigator, but this would be a great opportunity to see if its something I’d be willing to pay for. And to provide feedback as needed.
