Taking GPS Tracking from Big Brother to Guardian Angel
Dec 15th

The term “Big Brother” is often used when people refer to GPS and the ability to track others using GPS. Unless your talking about the reality TV show, it’s a negative phrase that has led many to believe that GPS is only used to keep tabs on people without their permission.
However, GPS tracking can actually be used in a very positive way – to help individuals and to help businesses.
For example, GPS locaters for children can help save a child who wanders off or is abducted. Many people are also now using GPS to help keep an eye on their pets so they can find them if they are lost.
Businesses can also protect their mobile employees through GPS. Today we issued some statistics showing that 48% of businesses with mobile workers have no way of determining where their mobile employees are. If something were to happen to one of these employees, they would not know how to locate them. With more and more employees becoming mobile (73% by 2012 according to Forrester), this percentage will only increase.
Our study also found that more than half of mobile employees said they’d be okay with a GPS location system (on their phone, car, etc.) if they knew their company was using it for safety reasons.
What about you? How do you feel about this? Would you be okay with using GPS at work if you knew it might improve your safety and perhaps serve as your guardian angel one day?
